Holiday 2021

Dear supporters and friends,

Canada Company is focused on education, awareness, and wellbeing, and we proudly delivered meaningful programs in all three areas in 2022. As the year draws to a close, I want to offer my holiday wishes — and reflect on what we have accomplished. It’s true what they say, “time flies when you’re having fun,” and here at Canada Company, we are passionate about serving those who serve and what we can achieve by coming together.

The 15th Anniversary of the Canada Company Scholarship Program

This year, we passed a special milestone with the 15th Anniversary of the Canada Company Scholarship Program. Since 2007, we have honoured fallen members of the Canadian Armed Forces by providing their children with scholarships. To recognize 15 years of helping students follow their dreams, we raised the scholarship amount from $4,000 to $5,000 starting with the 2022-23 academic year. We also added post-graduate scholarship opportunities to help our beneficiaries pursue more advanced learning.

This year’s Scholarship Ceremony took place in Ottawa on August 18, 2022. We were proud to award scholarships to 20 outstanding youth and 2 post-graduate students. Over the past fifteen years, a total of $884,000 in Canada Company Scholarships has been awarded to 77 students from 45 military families. If you’d like to watch the replay of our 2022 Ceremony, you can do so here: https://www.canadacompany.ca/en/our-stories/videos/.

Je Me Souviens

Our educational program, Je Me Souviens, continues to expand and grow. As of mid-November this year, 110,000 students and teachers have used the tools made available to them in-person or online since the program was created just four years ago. New this year is the online module, Courage in the Chaos: The Story of Dieppe. It was created to help students learn more about the bravery and sacrifice of Canadian soldiers on the shores of Dieppe, France, during the Jubilee Raid on Aug. 19, 1942. View it online here: https://jemesouviens.org/en/students/1939-1945/dieppe/

The Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers bursary recipient

Early this fall, we awarded 34 bursaries to members of the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers across Canada, adding to our previous 81 recipients for a total amount of $115,000 distributed. These bursaries recognize youth who have demonstrated attributes of leadership and citizenship, and are motivated to pursue post-secondary education, vocation, or other learning opportunities.

Again this year, we provided support to Junior Canadian Rangers facing financial challenges. The recipients are all youth from remote and isolated regions of Canada who want to make a difference in their own lives or within their respective communities. To date we have awarded close to $40,000.

Canada Company, with the help of its donors, was able to pledge close to $300,000 in support of Perley Health’s research and plans for transforming the care of Seniors and Veterans.

Delayed because of COVID but back in 2022

Two more LAV III monuments were dedicated on October 2, 2022. The communities of both Conception Bay South in Newfoundland and Labrador and Morinville in Alberta had to wait over two years to unveil their monuments. Both events were well attended, and more photos are available on our website.

On October 5, 2022, our Quebec chapter was finally able to hold its traditional Mess Dinner for business leaders. Discussions included a question-and-answer session about leadership and the current geo-strategic situation with Lieutenant General (Ret'd) the Honourable Andrew Leslie.

Thanks to the end of the COVID restrictions and the work of members of 2 CER using materials acquired with our generous donation, Camp Maple Leaf finally, after an 18-month delay, has 3 “like-new” cabins to help serve even more campers in the years to come.

The exhibition Play Hard Fight Hard that we sponsor is back on the road. Since the end of October, it has already attracted a large number of visitors at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in Red Deer, Alberta.

As you can see, 2022 has been an eventful year for Canada Company, and all of this would not have been possible without your support. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our strategic and corporate partners, donors, and friends. Thanks to you, Canada Company will always be here to Serve Those Who Serve in all the ways we can.

This holiday season, I ask for your recommitment to Canada Company. See below to find out how your contribution can make a meaningful impact.
